Scanning barcodes
Using the camera to read a barcode, looking up product data, and typing a code by hand.
1 min read
If a thing has a barcode, scanning it is faster than typing anything — and on a good day it fills in the product details for you.
Scanning
- 1In the item form, press the scan button beside the Barcode field.
- 2Press Open camera and allow camera access when the browser or phone asks.
- 3Point the camera at the barcode and hold steady. It reads automatically — there is no shutter button.
- 4Press Look up to search for product information for that code.
When a lookup succeeds, the name, manufacturer and other details are proposed. Nothing is written until you accept them, so a wrong match costs you a glance and not a correction.
Typing a code instead
Press Enter manually if the camera is not available or the label is damaged. Choose the code's type — UPC, EAN-13, EAN-8, ISBN-10, ISBN-13, ITIN, CODE128 or QR — so it is stored correctly.
When scanning does not work
›“Camera permission denied”
The browser or the phone is blocking the camera. In a browser, press the padlock in the address bar and allow camera access for elvoaq.com. On a phone, allow it in the system settings for the ELVOAQ app.
›The scan times out
Move to better light, hold the phone a little further away, and make sure the whole code including its quiet margins is in frame. Very glossy or curved labels often need an angle.
›“No product found”
The code is valid but not in the product databases — common for older, regional and second-hand goods. Type the details in yourself; the barcode is still stored and still searchable.
