Reset a forgotten password
Request a reset link, choose a new password, and set a first password on a Google account.
1 min read
- 1On the login page, press Forgot password?.
- 2Enter the email address on the account and submit.
- 3Open the message that arrives and press the reset link.
- 4Type a new password twice. The same rules apply as at sign-up: at least 8 characters with an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, a number and a special character.
- 5Submit. You are returned to the login page and can sign in with the new password.
Note
For privacy, the page confirms that a message has been sent whether or not an account exists for that address. If nothing arrives, the address probably has no account — try any other address you may have used.
Important
Reset links expire and can be used once. Request a new one rather than reusing an old link from an earlier email.
Setting a first password on a Google account
Accounts created through Google have no password at first. Run the same Forgot password flow with the Google address: the email that arrives lets you set one. From then on you can sign in either way.
