Free-form labels that cut across categories, and how to use them without creating a mess.

An item has exactly one category but any number of tags. Categories answer what kind of thing is this; tags answer everything else.
Adding and removing tags
- 1Open the item for editing and find the Tags field.
- 2Type a tag and press Enter. Repeat for as many as you need.
- 3Press the × on a tag to remove it, or Clear tags to remove them all.
Filtering by tag
The advanced filter panel in the library has a Tags section. Pick one or more and the library narrows to the items carrying them.
Tags that earn their keep
- Status:
on-loan,for-sale,needs-repair,sold - Paperwork:
insured,no-receipt,warranty-2027,appraised - Where it came from:
inherited,gift,auction - Projects:
office-move,exhibition-2027
Tip
Pick one spelling and stay with it. on-loan, On Loan and onloan are three different tags, and three tags mean three incomplete filters.
