Import and export
Bringing a spreadsheet in, taking everything out, and the two import modes.
2 min read
Import / Export in the sidebar moves data in and out of ELVOAQ. Both directions support CSV and JSON.
Exporting
- 1Open Import / Export and go to the export side.
- 2Choose the format: CSV for a spreadsheet, JSON for a complete structured copy.
- 3Choose the fields to include. Select all takes everything; at least one field is required.
- 4Press Export, then Download.
Note
Exporting your data needs a paid plan. On Free the option explains this rather than producing an empty file.
Tip
Export once a quarter and keep the file somewhere outside ELVOAQ. It costs a minute and it is the difference between an inconvenience and a catastrophe.
Importing
- 1Go to the import side and select your CSV or JSON file.
- 2ELVOAQ reads it and reports how many items it found.
- 3Check the preview — it shows the rows as they will be created. This is where a mis-mapped column is caught, not afterwards.
- 4Choose the import mode (below).
- 5Press Import items.
Import modes
- Add to existing
- The imported items are added alongside what you already have. Nothing existing is touched. This is almost always what you want.
- Overwrite all
- Your existing items are replaced by the file's contents. Use this only when restoring a backup into an account whose current contents you are certain you do not need.
Important
Overwrite all cannot be undone. ELVOAQ asks you to confirm it explicitly. Export first, always.
Preparing a spreadsheet
- One row per item, with a header row naming the columns.
- Give the name column a recognisable header —
name, titleoritem. - Use plain numbers for prices, without currency symbols. Put the currency in its own column.
- Write dates in ISO form —
2026-03-14— which is unambiguous in any locale. - Import a handful of rows first and check the result before importing thousands.
Tip
After a large import, run Item Intelligence. Imports are the most common source of duplicates.
