Two-factor authentication
Switching on 2FA with an authenticator app, saving backup codes, and what to do if you lose your phone.
2 min read
Two-factor authentication means a password alone is not enough to get into your account. After the password, ELVOAQ asks for a six-digit code from an app on your phone that changes every thirty seconds.
It is available on every plan, including Free, and if your vault records what you own, it is worth the two minutes.
Switching it on
- 1Install an authenticator app if you do not have one — Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy and 1Password all work.
- 2Open Settings → Security and start the two-factor setup.
- 3Scan the QR code with the app. If you cannot scan it, use the Can't scan? option to reveal a key you can type in.
- 4Enter the six-digit code the app now shows, and press Verify and enable.
- 5Save your backup codes. They are shown once.
Backup codes
Important
Backup codes are the only way into your account if you lose the phone. Print them, or store them in a password manager — not in a note on the same phone that holds the authenticator.
Each code works once, and the security panel shows how many remain. Regenerate backup codes issues a fresh set and invalidates the old ones, so do it only when you still have access.
Signing in with 2FA
After your password, enter the current code from the app — or one of your backup codes if the app is unavailable.
If a code is refused
Codes are tied to the clock. If your phone's time has drifted, every code fails. Switch the phone to automatic time in its date-and-time settings and try the next one.
Switching it off
Disable in the security panel turns it off after a confirmation. The app tells you plainly that this leaves the account less secure — because it does.
Note
Locked out with no phone and no backup codes? Write to support@elvoaq.com from the address on the account. Identity checks apply, and they take time — which is the point.
