Trash and restoring deleted items
How deletion works, how long you have to change your mind, and how to set the retention period.
1 min read
Deleting an item does not destroy it. It moves to Trash, keeping its photos, files, notes and history, and can be restored intact.
Restoring
- 1Open Trash in the sidebar.
- 2Find the item — there is a search box, and each entry shows when it was deleted and when it expires.
- 3Press Restore. It returns to the library exactly as it was. Restore all brings everything back at once.
How long items stay
The retention period is yours to set, in Settings → Trash:
- A number of days
- Items are permanently deleted this long after you delete them. Each entry shows its own countdown.
- Custom
- Any number of days you choose.
- Never delete
- Nothing is ever removed automatically. Trash becomes an archive that you empty by hand.
Important
Never delete means deleted items keep consuming storage forever, photos and files included. If you are close to your storage limit, this is the first place to look.
Deleting permanently
Delete on a Trash entry removes it for good, and Empty trash removes everything. Both ask for confirmation. Neither can be undone — a permanently deleted item and its files are gone.
